Clint Smith's jazz quartet: new recording, gigs in support of record

| CD News | 2006-08-24

2 years after recording Resolve with Marco Panascia on bass and Jordan Young on drums, New York City-based guitarist Clint Smith is reentering the studio with a new set of compositions and a new quartet.

Augmenting his previous trio format with Matt LaVon on alto and soprano saxophone, Smith has elaborated on the free improvisational aspects of his initial effort while simultaneously working in more through-composed sections and expanding his range of compositional influences, including more modes and ideas from various world music and popular music idioms while staying close to his commitment to free improvisaton and a level exchange of ideas between everyone in the band.

Upon finishing the recording, Smith, LaVon, John Romey (on bass), and Erik Feder (on drums) will be playing a series of shows in New York City and the surrounding areas, running some of the compositions from the recording as well as other originals that Smith has been working on for the past several years.
