Artists on Tour 2004-2005
Renato Borghetti Quartet (Brasil) Accordion virtuoso Renato Borghetti is the star among the new folk musicians from Rio Grande do Sul in Southern Brazil. Borghetti has revised, adapted and modernized many of the native tunes of Rio Grande do Sul; he does not shy away from more typical forms of the wide spectrum of Brazilian and global pop, samba, jazz, tango and beyond. Each of those forms he adapts to his unique style of accordion playing. His fast and playful tunes combine the sounds of the Argentinian pampa with central European, Italian and French elements into a sparkling, contemporary mixture of Tango, Polka, TexMex and Musette. Concert dates: 19.3. Bad Hofgastein (A), Festival Jazz im Schnee / 22.-26.3. Vienna (A), Joe Zawinul’s Birdland Availability: March-April 2005; July-August 2005 / Europe http://www.renatoborghetti.com.br
Martin Lubenov Orkestar (Bulgaria/Austria /Serbia) He is the new star in Vienna’s accordion sky: At the age of only 28 years, Bulgarian accordion virtuoso Martin Lubenov (Jony Iliev Band, Sandy Lopicic Orkestar, Wiener Tschuschenkapelle) is already among the top Balkan accordionists. With breathtaking virtuosity and playful elegance he combines Balkan Roma music with shades of swing, modern jazz, tango nuevo, salsa and musette and pays honour to it - like Astor Piazzolla did to tango and Richard Galliano did to musette. Subtly light-footed and nevertheless melancholic, definitely very southern music - Martin Lubenov and his Orkestar have created something quite impossible: a completely new hybrid, which will carry away intellectuals, jazz fans, world-music-afficionados just as well as pop freaks. The first CD “Dui Droma” has just been released by the Dutch label Connecting Cultures (Liliana Buttler, Mostar Sevdah Reunion, Kardes Türküler) and will be presented this autumn. Concert dates: 10.11. Linz (A), AK Kongresssaal / 11.11. Vienna (A), Szene Wien, / 13.11. St. Johann/Wimberg (A), Alte Tischlerei / 15.11. Salzburg (A), Kulturgelände Salzburg / 16.11. Ljubljana (SLO), Metelkova, / 18.11. Achomitz/Zahomc im Gailtal/Zila (A), Kulturhaus / 19.11. Buch (A), Kultur am Land / 20.11. Molln (A), Nationalparkzentrum / 21.11. Vasilic Nenad Balkan Band (Austria/Serbia/Kosovo) Cosmopolitan, Vienna based “Vasa” ranges among the top bass players, composers and arrangers of European jazz. The melodies and rhythms of his native Serbia (and the Balkans beyond!) have always been central to his musical approach. By combining these elements with the language of contemporary jazz, Vasilic's music has evolved into a playful, light connection between European Jazz and the rich treasures of Balkan folk music. Cosmopolitan Chamber-Jazz oscillating between archaic melancoly and an overwhelming lust for life. Vasilic’s third CD “Joe Jack is back” is out now (ORF) and will be presented in autumn. Concert dates: 16.12. St. Pölten (A), Cinema Paradiso / 13.12. Wien (A), Porgy&Bess / 29.12. Bad Hofgastein (A), Jazz im Sägewerk / 28.1.
