Application AMERICAN MUSIC GROUP 3-DAY JAZZ WORKSHOP Greenwich House Music School, 46 Barrow Street, New York City Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday, April 6, 7 & 8, 2004 (over Spring Recess) 10am-3pm
The American Music Group, in collaboration with the Greenwich House Music School, is presenting a free 3-day Jazz Workshop for selected NYC high school jazz students. The workshop will focus on many areas of jazz performance, composition and the life of being a jazz musician. Teachers for the workshop include saxophonist Dennis Mitcheltree and piano, bass, drums and brass specialists. Students will work on a variety of areas involving jazz performance for 4 hours each of the 3 days. There will be a final recording of the group that will be given to participants at the end of the workshop.
APPLICANTS: Must be a current New York City high school student (grade 9-12) involved in jazz performance. 3 saxophone/woodwind, 3 brass, 1 piano, 1 drums and 1 bass student will be chosen from the pool of applicants. Applicants must be able to attend all 3 days.
REQUIREMENTS: 1. Students must send in this completed application. 2. A short musical resume. 3. A letter of recommendation with contact information from a musical mentor or teacher. 4. An audio tape or CD of the applicant performing in the jazz idiom is required. Any jazz idiom is acceptable, it should be an idiom that applicant is interested in and preferably showcase improvisation by the applicant.
The American Music Group must receive applicant materials by 5pm Thursday, March 4, 2004. Applicants will be notified by Friday, March 19, 2004 if they have been accepted for the program. Notification will be by email, telephone or post.
Piano, bass amplifier and drum set will be provided. All other participants must bring their own instruments. Lunch break will be from noon-1pm each day, students must provide their own lunch and transportation to and from the Greenwich House Music School.
