Markus Stockhausen solo (trumpet, flugelhorn, electronics) Trumpeter-composer, Markus Stockhausen, is the son of "the" Stockhausen. As is well-known the firm of Stockhausen is some sort of family business with papa Karl-Heinz making extensive use of the considerable musical talents of his sons Simon and Markus. Since the seventies Markus Stockhausen has been following his own lead, which has led him not only to the Jazz circles but also those of contemporary composed music. Stockhausens home base is St.Maternus' church in Cologne, the meeting place of his monthly concerts; sometimes solo, sometimes accompanied by guests. On these occasions he plays primarily his own compositions and improvisations, also known as intuïtive music, to underline that these improvisations avoid any scheme and are therefore absolutely free. The concerts in Nijmegen and Utrecht will elaborate on these Cologne concerts. At the same time the acoustic potential of the concert platforms will be put to their optimal use.
Radian Radian is a trio of bass, drums and synthesizer, and 2 laptops. Minimal techno, postrock and indiejazz are the musical ingredients of a wonderful carpet of sounds, melodies and beats. Unlike most minimal-techno acts Radian is a real group, using real instruments. Its ingenious use of 'clicks 'n' cuts' and preprogrammed pieces makes Radian stand out from most postrock en indiejazz. Think, for example, of 'Tortoise meets Pan Sonic' or 'Chicago Underground meets Mouse on Mars' where opposites like 'digital and analogue', 'artificial and real', 'electronic and acoustic' are effortlessly combined and concepts like 'conventional or unconventional' have become irrelevant. Were previous albums put on the market by MEGO, their latest album is released on the Thrill Jockey label. On Rec.Extern, produced by John McEntire (Tortoise), Radian sounds more colourful, deeper and more original than ever.
dif:use dif:use are the 'Monsters of laptop'. This multifunctional laptopband, created by the Dutch 'elektronics wizard' Roel Funcken (Funckarma), with reknowned laptoppers from the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, have been locked up in the studio for a week. Now they are going to break loose on stage, with their laptops interconnected. What can we expect? The major theme of dif:use is the complexity of rhythmic structures and their fusion with different layers. Their aim is to find the perfect balance between order and chaos, dance music and experiment. Be prepared for bouncing beats and freaky melodies. Everything dif:use does is live; even the visuals are directed by live music. Line-up: Roel Funcken & Don Funcken (Funckarma), Martijn Hoogendijk (EOG, Alden Tyrell), Hanno Leichtmann (Static), Cor Bolten (Mecano), Gersom van de Bunt (Nynack) and Daniel Meir.
Immediately afterwards Bong-Ra [DJ Set] will conclude the evening with his set full of breakcore, the loud and energetic mix of breakbeats, gabber, ragga, dancehall, drum 'n' bass and noise.
Frederic Galliano and the African Divas Frederic Galliano is well-known in the French dance-scene, of which he has been part since 1996. In 1999 he released his first collection-cd entitled Frikyiwa. It contains Gallianos remixes of West-African tracks. With the African Divas he again presents a combination of electronic and African music. Frederic Galliano -turntables & electronics, Hadja Kouyate - voice & dance, Aissata Balde - voice & dance, Ramatta Doussou - voice & dance, Ali Boulou - Santokora, Lipitone - keyboards.
